Our Vision

The aim of Dance Off Challenge is to create a wider range of performance opportunities for dancers to challenge and extend their dance capabilities, in a safe and positive environment. The dance world is evolving at such a fast rate with so many external influences available, that it is important for today’s dancer to keep on the pulse with dance trends. The Dance Off Challenge concept is designed to help nurture the student in a friendly competition environment, that they can relate to and that will help to build confidence and keep their passion for dance alive.

Our competition has two components:

Dance Off Audition Challenge

In our fast paced lifestyles, students often miss out on the many benefits of attending freelance classes or experiencing guest teachers. Many students head off to auditions for the first time, without having had any opportunity to experience a different style of teaching other than what they have learnt in their regular dance classes. This can be a daunting experience and performers are often not able to put their ‘best foot forward’ as they are struggling with the new environment, different choreography and speed in which they are expected to pick up dance steps.

This unique competition has been developed to give students the opportunity to experience the audition environment first hand. Set on a stage, just like a real audition, dancers will learn a short dance combination (approximately 1 minute) which will be broken down and rehearsed in groups. Dancers will then perform the choreography in groups of approximately 4-5 dancers for a panel of judges who are current industry professionals. Each performer will receive a written critique so that they know what areas need to be improved. The judges will be looking at 4 major elements:

  • speed in picking up steps
  • ability to absorb the style
  • dance technique
  • presentation

An elimination process will then be made to establish the Top 10 dancers in their age category. Students will be encouraged to remain in the auditorium to support those dancers remaining in the competition. From the Top 10 competitors, our judges will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd  places in an awards ceremony at the end of the session where all dancers will also receive their participation awards.

Dance Off Troupe Challenge

The Dance Off Troupe Challenge streamlines the traditional competition format by allowing troupes to compete in smaller sections with grouping into performance levels; recreational (under 3 hours training per week by all troupe members) or experienced (over 3 hours training per week by one or more troupe members). We believe that this will create a more balanced competition and encourage new troupes to enter. Our aim is to award 1st, 2nd & 3rd places as well as special prizes, acknowledging other important aspects of performance. By providing a large auditorium and ample dressing room space, we are able to accommodate many troupes and condense everything into an exciting, one day event, that will provide entertainment for the whole family.
